Auto calibration motion system

This system was developed to be a low cost, medium accuracy solution to replace tedious manual calibration of laser scanning systems at Starrett Bytewise. A calibration block needs to be moved to specific positions on the interior of a laser scanning system. Previously this was done by manually adjusting a small platform and positioning the block by hand. I was tasked with creating an automated system that could do this calibration more accurately, more quickly, and without the need for trained engineers. The budget was also very tight, so a mostly 3D printed assembly was required. This system uses a belt driven x axis and a lead screw driven z axis for motion. Small steppers drive each axis, and are controlled by a micro-controller running a custom program. The user interacts via a small OLED screen and 3 buttons. The end effector uses a dovetail lock to allow for interchangeable calibration blocks.
